Before you start making the soap, make sure you are wearing a long sleeve shirt. You will also need close-toe shoes, gloves, and eye protection. Mostly, this is to protect from the lye that is used in soap making. Next, you will need a respirator. Sometimes the lye and water solution creates fumes. If you don’t have a respirator, you have to make sure the room is well vented.
As for the materials, you will need pure 100% lie or sodium hydroxide. You also need distilled water and oils such as coconut oil. There are some tools you will need too. You will need a scale for measuring the soap and an immersion blender. Spatulas and spoons are also useful for mixing and scraping. Lastly, you will need measuring bowls and molds for the soap.
