How to Get Started Making Soap

Homemade soap is an excellent hobby. It can be peaceful and it provides you with fantastic smelling soap that you can either use yourself, gift to others, or even sell on the side. However, before you get started there are a few things you will need. In this video, you will learn about the tools you need to make soap. Please note that you may also need a soap melting machine if you plan on creating large batches.

Before you start making the soap, make sure you are wearing a long sleeve shirt. You will also need close-toe shoes, gloves, and eye protection. Mostly, this is to protect from the lye that is used in soap making. Next, you will need a respirator. Sometimes the lye and water solution creates fumes. If you don’t have a respirator, you have to make sure the room is well vented.

As for the materials, you will need pure 100% lie or sodium hydroxide. You also need distilled water and oils such as coconut oil. There are some tools you will need too. You will need a scale for measuring the soap and an immersion blender. Spatulas and spoons are also useful for mixing and scraping. Lastly, you will need measuring bowls and molds for the soap.
